How do you keep the likeness while making it cartoon?
We exaggerate proportion, not identity. Head size, stance and expression are pushed for character, while the features that make someone recognisable — the set of the eyes, the nose profile, the hairline, how they stand — are kept faithful. You approve the 3D model before anything is built.
Can you work from an old or low-resolution photograph?
Usually yes. A front-facing portrait plus a three-quarter profile gives enough information. Where the photograph is weak or the face is small, we say so before you commit.
Do you offer smaller indoor keepsakes?
No. We build at scale only — our smallest pieces are 1.5 m. Cold-cast resin appears on our materials page for comparison only.
How much does a large portrait sculpture cost?
Surveyed overseas ranges above 1.5 m run $900–$5,900 in fibreglass and $2,500–$12,000 in stainless for abstract forms. A realistic face and hands add far more: $8,000–$15,000 in fibreglass, and $10,000–$40,000 in stainless, where likeness is also harder to hold.
Which material should a realistic portrait be?
Fibreglass, in almost every case. A refined face and hands with a painted finish lands around $8,000–$15,000 and holds a likeness far better. Stainless is excellent for abstract and geometric portraits but expensive and prone to distortion when asked to carry a realistic face.
What should a quote include?
Material grade and sheet thickness, the internal steel frame, structural calculations if the piece is over 2 m, the UV or clear-coat specification, door-to-door freight, who pays import duty, who handles rigging and installation, and the warranty period. Ours states all of it up front.
Do you offer a discount for several identical pieces?
Yes, and it is the single biggest saving available. A one-off commission carries the full mould cost, which for a life-size piece runs roughly $2,000–$8,000. From about ten identical pieces the mould is amortised and the unit price drops 40–60%. Ask for the mould priced separately from the per-unit price.
How long does a large portrait sculpture take?
Plan on 8–16 weeks. Bumping above 2.5 m, or any stainless fabrication, adds time because the internal frame is engineered and welded before finishing begins.
